Reiki Explained
Reiki, the Japanese word for 'Universal Energy' is an ancient method of healing. Reiki is a wave of energy that flows through everything. It gently balances, realigns and recharges the body, and triggers the body’s natural ability to heal.
What is Reiki and How Does It Work?
Some people say that Reiki is the best complementary treatment out there, but you may never have heard of it. So where has Reiki come from and what is it all about? Reiki, the Japanese word for ‘universal energy’, is an ancient method of healing. It was largely unheard of in the West until Dr Usui rediscovered Reiki in 1920s Japan, and it spread to the West over the following two decades. Some people are not convinced by its benefits, but scientific studies have proved the genuine benefit of Reiki. We might not understand it, but we know it works.
What are the benefits of Reiki?
Reiki improves all aspects of life, including physical health and emotional well-being. Reiki works by enhancing the ability to heal, which will have a direct impact on overall well-being. Our bodies are built of muscles, bones, blood vessels, tendons and organs, but they also have an energy system. Every part of the physical, spiritual and emotional body is linked to these energy systems. By releasing any anxiety and other negative emotion, Reiki cleanses the physical and emotional body. When something goes wrong within the body, negative energy is created. The negative energy or blockage in the energy system will result in a downward spiral of both physical and emotional health problems. Reiki can breakdown these negative energies and replace them with positive energy. Negative energy is very damaging and the longer we allow it to dwell within a body, the more damage is done.

How does Reiki work?
The Reiki practitioner will turn on the connection with the universal healing energy that is everywhere around us. They will ensure that the person or animal they are working with will take as much or as little of the energy offered as they need at that time. This is done to prevent them from potentially becoming overwhelmed.
The effects of Reiki are cumulative, so it is advised to have a course of treatments to produce long-term beneficial changes, emotionally and physically. The Reiki treatment can be given via ‘hands on healing’ (touch), or simply through the Reiki practitioner being physically close to the person or animal, sending the Reiki to them from a short distance. Reiki, a complementary, holistic, and non-manipulation therapy is extremely beneficial to every being.
